Zoho Extensions & Plugin Collection

As a wrap up for all of the Zoho goodness that I have written about lately here is a collection of my favourite browser and Microsoft Office plugins. Whether you only add one or all of them to your system I think that they will be very useful for you. ^_^

I have some sample screenshots for each of the extensions and the Microsoft Office plugin to give you an idea of how they look and operate. The download links for each are also at the end of the mini-sections for your convenience. ^_^ Now on to the Zoho goodness...

Zoho Notebook Helper

Note: Available for Firefox & Iron/Chromium-Based Browsers.

This is a terrific extension to have installed. Whenever you find text, images, or links that you want to save highlight them, right click, and select “Add to Zoho Notebook” from the “Context Menu”. You can create a new notebook or add the notes to a pre-existing one.

     

Notice how nicely the original webpage formatting held in the new notebook.

     

This is what the note shown above looked like in my account…I think you will love this extension as much as I do. ^__^

Note: If you have the Zoho Notebook web app open in a tab the extension will be temporarily turned off.

Zoho Companion (Formerly Zoho QuickRead)

Note: Available for Firefox, Internet Explorer, & Iron/Chromium-Based Browsers.

If you want to work with locally stored documents you can view, edit, and upload them using this extension. On your regular computer this may not be as helpful but it really shines if you are using a portable browser elsewhere.

     

Notice that you can select and upload multiple documents at the same time…no more of that “one file at a time” hassle.

     

When you are uploading documents it looks just like a set of downloads in progress.

Zoho Share Search Plugin

Note: Available for Firefox only.

This is useful to have installed in your browser if you want to search through publicly shared documents at the Zoho Share website. Once you start installing the extension you can decide if you want to automatically set it as the default search engine or not.

     

This is what the search plugin will look like when set as the default. Ready to go!

     

Just enter in the term that you want to search for and a new tab will open with the result for your search at the Zoho Share website. Very nice. ^__^

Zoho PlugIn For Microsoft Office

Note: Works with Microsoft Office 2000 and above (English Language versions only).

Installing the plugin is quick and easy…it will want to auto-start Word and Excel once you finish the installation though.

     

If you have a version of Office installed that uses the “Ribbon UI” look for the “Add-Ins Tab”. Since I have the Office 2010 beta installed on my one computer system the tab was all the way at the end. You will have a special “Zoho Menu” available along with some other commands as seen here.

     

Whether you are accessing Word or Excel documents you will be presented with a list to choose from as seen in the example here. Choose the one that you want and click “Open”. Then edit your document to your heart’s content.

     

A nice surprise feature with the plugin is the ability to save your Zoho documents locally in a special folder (located in the My Documents area). Based on my experiences so far opening these documents will require you to enter your password to access them so it does add a nice bit of security for you. ^_^

Note: When I opened my locally stored documents I did so after totally closing Microsoft Word and then re-opening these documents.
